The Hamilton brothers spent their last Sunday as owners of the Palm Pavilion throwing themselves a going away party. They called it the Final Sunset, and regulars who had been coming to the beachfront grill and bar since childhood showed up to say goodbye to a business their family had run since 1964. By the following weekend, the kitchen was back open under a different company, and within a few weeks it had a different name.
That part of the story made the local news. Another detail is Beachside's existing restaurant presence within walking distance.
Beachside's Existing Clearwater Beach Restaurants
Beachside Hospitality Group, a St. Petersburg based restaurant company, paid $23 million for the Palm Pavilion Restaurant, splitting the deal with Tampa based McKibbon Equities, which took the adjoining 37-unit inn. The restaurant portion covers 11,869 square feet at 10 Bay Esplanade, built in 1926 and recognized as Florida's oldest operating beach pavilion. Beachside kept most of the staff, kept much of the menu, and kept the live music. What it didn't keep was the name. The Palm Pavilion reopened as Crabby's Beachside Pavilion, a rebrand that landed the business right around its 100th year on the beach, a milestone the Hamilton family had planned to celebrate alongside the new owners even as they handed over the keys.
It wasn't Beachside's first restaurant on Clearwater Beach. It was its fifth. The company already operated Salty Crab Bar & Grill, Crabby's Dockside, Salty's Island Bar & Grille, and Crabby's Bar & Grill up and down the same stretch of sand before it ever made an offer on the Palm Pavilion. Company-wide, the acquisition marked its 16th location across Florida, part of a 15-brand portfolio with roughly 1,200 employees.
If you've eaten at more than one of those five spots in the past year without realizing they share an owner, now you know the connection.
A Different Kind of New Arrived a Few Blocks North
A different kind of operator has also opened restaurants a short walk away. Business Observer reported that the Opal Sol resort at 400 Coronado Drive opened three restaurants this month: Lolita's Coastal Cocina, a Mexican concept modeled on a sister location at the Opal Key West Resort and Marina, serving shareable plates and entrees like grouper a la veracruzana; Float Malt Shop & Creamery, a scoop and shake counter open until 9 p.m. with signature desserts like the Tropical Explosion; and Beach Market, a grab-and-go counter running from 6:30 a.m. serving breakfast sandwiches and specialty coffee.
Opal Sol is connected by a glass skyway to the older Opal Sands building next door, and together the two resorts now run ten dining options along that section of Beach Walk. The company behind them, Opal Collection, isn't a local operator picking up a second or third location. It's part of Ocean Properties Hotels Resorts & Affiliates, based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, running 31 properties from Bar Harbor, Maine down to Key West.
Within the same year, Beachside Hospitality Group added the Palm Pavilion to its existing Clearwater Beach restaurants, and Opal Collection opened three restaurants at Opal Sol.

What Didn't Change
Other familiar restaurants continue to serve the beach. Frenchy's Rockaway Grill is still doing three levels of outdoor seating and the grouper sandwich it's known for. Salt Cracker Fish Camp is still parked by the marina with its terrace views. Marina Cantina is still pouring tequila with a view of the boats, and Ocean Seven is still seven floors up in the Hiatus Hotel, holding onto its Wine Spectator Award of Excellence and its OpenTable Diners' Choice recognition into 2026. Those names have not appeared in either company's expansion announcements this year. The restaurants along the strip also include businesses outside the two groups.
What This Means If You Live Here
If you've walked Beach Walk regularly over the past year, the map in your head is probably a little out of date in two directions at once. The Palm Pavilion, which the Hamilton family ran since the 1960s, now operates under the same company as four other restaurants on Clearwater Beach. And the stretch you think of as still being built out with hotel construction fencing has opened three restaurants that are already serving the public, not just resort guests.
None of this changes what's actually good to eat on Clearwater Beach this fall. It does update the picture of who operates several restaurants along Beach Walk.
